TEHRAN -- The U.S. president and other U.S. officials will certainly be put on trial for the Iraq catastrophe, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said in a sermon at Friday prayers in Tehran.<br>

The United States has made itself anathema in the Islamic world, and the U.S. administration is being impeached by the public opinion of nations, the Leader noted.
The vigilant Iranian nation has caused the U.S. plans to weaken the Islamic Revolution to fail, and by continuing on this honorable path, Iran will reach a point where no power will dare to threaten it, he stated.
Ayatollah Khamenei also elaborated on the causes and aftermath of the defeat of the imperialistic front at the hands of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Referring to the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, he said, ?The real goal behind this massive project was to destroy the Islamic Revolution.?
Western analysts had realized that the Islamic Revolution would inspire the entire Islamic world, and so the Western powers tried to block its progress, he added.
The Leader said that the failure of imperialistic projects to oppress and defeat the Islamic Revolution should be a subject of comprehensive psychological and sociological studies.
?In a multifaceted plan, the Americans tried to build a new Middle East centered in Israel and securing the interests of the Zionist regime, but they failed in every aspect,? the Leader noted.
?Despite the U.S. conspiracies and even the regrettable collaboration of some Palestinians, the popular Hamas government is still in power,? he observed, adding that this is a slap in the face to the U.S. and Israel.
?The goal of the United States was to establish a puppet government in Iraq, which would greatly facilitate the implementation of the Greater Middle East Initiative. But after four years of occupation, today all analysts believe that the U.S. has reached a dead end in Iraq and is seeking a face-saving way to withdraw from the country,? Ayatollah Khamenei stated
